General Questions
NeighborShare is a community platform that connects neighbors who
want to rent out their tools with those who need them. Instead of
buying expensive tools for one-time projects, you can rent them from
people in your area - and if you have tools sitting unused, you can
earn money by sharing them!
NeighborShare offers more affordable pricing since you're dealing
directly with neighbors, not a corporation. Plus, you're supporting
your local community, the tools are often closer to your home, and
you might even make a new friend! Many of our tool owners offer
flexible pickup times and personalized advice.
NeighborShare is currently available throughout Alabama and
expanding to new areas. We're a local platform that works best when
neighbors join together - so invite your community to help grow the
network in your area!
We encourage all users to follow our
Safety Guidelines. While NeighborShare facilitates connections between neighbors,
all transactions occur directly between users. We recommend using
PayPal or CashApp for payment protection, meeting in safe locations,
and reviewing our Terms of Service.
Renting Tools
Simply browse available tools in your area, click on one you need,
and send a rental request to the owner. Include your preferred dates
and any questions. Once approved, coordinate pickup and payment
directly with the owner via PayPal or CashApp.
Always inspect tools before using them and document any existing
issues. If you discover problems, contact the owner immediately
before using the tool. Work out a resolution directly - this might
include a refund, replacement, or adjusted rental terms. Document
everything in writing.
Per our Terms of Service, renters are responsible for returning
tools in the same condition. If damage occurs, you're expected to
compensate the owner for repairs or replacement. This is why we
recommend documenting the tool's condition before rental and
discussing damage policies upfront.
NeighborShare doesn't require insurance, but we recommend checking
your homeowner's or renter's insurance for coverage. Some policies
cover borrowed equipment. You're responsible for any damages during
the rental period, so understanding your coverage is wise.
Listing Tools
First,
sign up
and choose a subscription plan. Then use our
List a Tool
form to add your tools with photos, descriptions, pricing, and
availability. Your listings will appear in search results for
neighbors in your area.
We offer three subscription plans:
Starter ($9/month) for up to 3 items,
Pro ($19/month) for up to 10 items with priority
placement, and Unlimited ($39/month) for unlimited
listings. You keep 100% of your rental earnings - we never take a
cut of your transactions!
You can list hand tools, power tools, lawn and garden equipment,
automotive tools, and more. Tools must be in safe, working
condition. Prohibited items include weapons, illegal equipment, and
anything that requires professional licensing to operate.
You set your own prices! Consider the tool's value, replacement
cost, typical wear and tear, and local market rates. Many owners
charge 5-15% of the tool's retail value per day. You can also set
different rates for daily, weekly, or monthly rentals.
Payments & Pricing
NeighborShare uses a direct peer-to-peer payment model. Renters pay
tool owners directly via PayPal or CashApp. We don't process rental
payments or take any transaction fees - you deal directly with your
neighbor. Tool owners only pay the monthly subscription fee.
We believe tool owners should keep what they earn. Our simple
subscription model means predictable costs for owners and no
surprise fees. Whether you rent out one tool or twenty in a month,
you keep 100% of the rental income.
Yes! You can cancel your subscription at any time. Your listings
will remain active until the end of your billing period. After that,
they'll be deactivated but not deleted - you can reactivate them by
subscribing again.
Since payments occur directly between users via PayPal or CashApp,
disputes should be resolved through those platforms' resolution
processes. We recommend keeping all communication records and using
PayPal's Goods & Services option for buyer protection when possible.
